  1. That site does give some good information on the GT, but not quite what I'm looking for. Perhaps I should itemize my questions. With regards to the GT.. -does it have an LSD? -different interior (seats, dashboard)? -lower springs or different struts? -I know it has different front bumper, hood, wheels, and side skirts, how about rear bumper? -headgasket prone 2.5l only available engine? -upgraded brakes/rotors? Do you think it would be worth it to upgrade a regular or brighton, or just hold out to find a decent priced GT?
  2. I am considering buying a 2nd gen, Legacy GT. However, they are somewhat hard to find around here, yet Outbacks and Brightons are very common. So what is it that makes a GT a GT? What sorts of things would I need to change? Has anyone had the oppertunity to drive a JDM GT with the Twin Turbo?
  3. It is a SOHC. Are the timing belt covers the same for an EJ22 as an EJ25 assuming both are SOHC? I'm having trouble finding a new cover (the P.side long one) or does anyone have one for sale?
  4. I checked the compression and the cylenders on the side that slipped was actually slightly higher than the other side, but both were within 20psi of each other. I hope I can get it together soon and really test it out!
  5. Well I have begun rescuing Subarus from the local salvage auction and this week I got my hands on a 99 Forester. It was hit in the lower middle front (possibly a pole or tree) and the radiator fans ended up inside the timing belt cover. I checked the timing and it was out about 5-6 teeth on the passenger bank, also the oil filter was punctured and mangled. After refilling and filtering it (there was about 1 liter left in the oil pan) and resetting the timing belt it started up nicely. I have not done a compression check yet (my gauge may not reach) so my question is this. How far can the valve timing go out before the 2.5L will begin to.... interfere, and how long can an engine run without oil pressure before things start to take damage? If there was still a liter of oil in the pan, I would think the engine was shut off fairly soon after the accident, right? It runs smoothly and revs nicely, but its hard to give it a real test since there is no radiator and I don't want to also kill the water pump.
  6. Today I won an Impreza, 93 wagon AWD 5spd at an auction. I have wanted a coupe (preferably 2.5 RS) for many years so this is kind of a step in the right direction. I bought it just to fix and sell as I already have a newly modified Loyale, however this Impreza is quite addicting.... I doubt I'd keep it but at least it'll be fun to drive for awhile. It is really nice to finally have some power although the seats are kind of low and that airbag steering wheel has got to go.
  7. One suggestion. My struts also died long ago, and since I didn't want to replace them and prop rods are a real pain, I just bent them. Grab the 2 rods and push them outwards, or sideways ect. and it will keep the hatch up no problem. Slightly harder to open, but not $100 harder.
  8. I meant in theory only. If I really cared about a center LSD I'd just convert to EJ... heh.
  9. After looking at the above posted pages, it seems to me that the 5spd impreza tranny would work, and is designed the same as the xt6 one. The only difference is there is a clutch pack where the 4wd locker once was, if a person was skilled enough (and had the time and machinery) they could theoreticaly replace the 4wd locker with a clutch pack and have real AWD. Am I right?
  10. Whichever bolt pattern you decide on (I would prefer 4x100 for strength issues) make sure it is both hubcentric and wheelcentric.
  11. Why not convert to an xt or xt6 ft4wd transmission (depending on your diff ratio), or an RX tranny?
  12. What I'm looking for is just a internal visual of an Impreza tranny. Does it have a setup similar to the xt6 tranny? Front pinion run though hollow countershaft, center diff behind with lsd clutch pack or...? Also, is the Impreza 5spd a true 50/50 split untill something slips like the xt6? I would love to see the offical repair manual for this. Just to clarify, this is regarding a first gen Impreza.
  13. The tranfer case on your Jeep has got me thinking... I would guess this is already the case in some vehicles, but could you make/remake a t-case that has a center diff in it to make a Jeep or other 4x4 truck full time 4x4?
  14. I can believe it. I had an '82 Toyota Tercel fwd which was fantastic in the winter untill the rust caught up with her. I never thought I could respect a fwd car before.
  15. Nice to know I can run different tires after I made a special effort get a matching set for the transmision. I suppose using very different tires would have an adverse effect on any of the 3 diffs though, similar to pinion failure caused by running a temp spare on the back of a rwd car. I have studied the schematics for the ft4wd xt6 5spd tranny, and I would like to see how it compares to an Impreza one, does anyone have a link or pdf for that?
