November 21, 200718 yr Hi All - took some pictures and notes on replacing the timing belt and water pump on a 1995 Subaru Legacy Outback. Hope someone finds it useful! http://www.lovehorsepower.com/SubaruDocs/TimingWaterPump.htm -Joe http://www.lovehorsepower.com
November 21, 200718 yr Great !! Thanks! One thing though I need to mention is the crank pulley need to be torqued down to 140ft-lb's. Atleast thats what had to be done with my Legacy.
November 21, 200718 yr Author That's interesting. The service manual I have is for a 1992 Legacy - still the EJ22 engine, and it shows 69 to 76 ft-lbs. That does sound low for a crankshaft pulley bolt, but it is what is specified in the manual. -Joe http://videos.lovehorsepower.com
November 21, 200718 yr Current service manuals, starting around year 2000 or so, do specify 132 lb*ft of torque for the crankshaft bolt. However, the current part number for this bolt is different from the one for "old school", as I learned recently when a FSM page was posted on NASIOC. But indeed people say the old spec. is too low. So the mystery remains. I tightened the bolt to 90 lb*ft.
