How to on Timing Belt and Water Pump Replacement - 1995 Legacy

Featured Replies

Great !! Thanks! One thing though I need to mention is the crank pulley need to be torqued down to 140ft-lb's. Atleast thats what had to be done with my Legacy.

That's interesting. The service manual I have is for a 1992 Legacy - still the EJ22 engine, and it shows 69 to 76 ft-lbs. That does sound low for a crankshaft pulley bolt, but it is what is specified in the manual.

Current service manuals, starting around year 2000 or so, do specify

132 lb*ft of torque for the crankshaft bolt. However, the current part

number for this bolt is different from the one for "old school", as I learned

recently when a FSM page was posted on NASIOC. But indeed people say

the old spec. is too low. So the mystery remains. I tightened the bolt to 90 lb*ft.
