Remote trunk release

Featured Replies

Have an '86 GL sedan for little over a week. No manual. Having some issues with door locks. Some stick and don't unlock without manual opening. Some don't lock automatically and one door can't get child safety lock to disengage.

Realize I need to work on them, but temps have been from -3 to 8 degrees all weekend. Until I get it figured out, just not locking doors.

My question is, Is there a quick and easy way to disable the remote trunk release? I would like trunk to be only opened by the key. I had an old car from '80's and it had a switch in the trunk you could push to do this. I couldn't find one on the Subaru.

This same lever opens gas cover, so I don't want to cut cables, etc. I also want a reverseable solution in case I want to use it again.

Thanks,

on my hatch (and 02 wrx) ther remote trunk cable is attched on the release in the trunk area, both are covered by a plastic panal with clips that pull out.

if you remove the panal you can see where the cabel is attched, just un hook the cable and your golden.

or you can remove you driver side door plate and un-hook it at the lever too.

my 91 SS has a lever at the latch in the trunk

to disable the remote release.

You need to look in an owners manual.

I think I have one for an 87, I'll look.

My 88 XT (I'm guessing it's the same for your car) has a switch on the latch in the trunk, just flip it and it's key operated only.

Yes. Just confirmed with an 87 owners manual, there IS a trunk lid "lockout" switch, it is located behind the small square plastic access panel in the trunk for the latching mechanism. It moves from one side towards the center, and it APPEARS that the center position is "locked" but I cannot tell. The angle of the lever should make it obvious which way it need to flip.

Sorry I can't scan the little line drawing, but it isn't much help anyhow.

Thanks for the info, couldn’t find an obvious switch near the latch itself. Will look for panel when I get home tonight.
