EJ 20 TT into 97 impreza

Featured Replies

I installing a JDM EJ20TT into my brighton edition 97 impreza currently with an EJ18. Has anyone done this conversion? Are there any unforeseen challenges other than the need to relocate the driver's side turbo closer to the motor? Additionally, I don't have an ECU for the new motor? I was thinking of putting in some variable resistors to adjust the O2 and MAF before sending the signals to the original ECU... will this work? Lastly, when I got the motor, the passenger turbo had an oil leak. I am currently rebuilding this one and am at a point where I cannot determine what to do next. I am having trouble getting the turbine off. Any suggestions would probably help. Thank you!

NASIOC has a lot more information about this kind of swap than here.

i'd want to swap the wiring harness and computer for the donor engine into the car. might want to try sourcing those and see what you come up with.

i have seen the ECU and wiring harness on ebay before....there are usually two or three there.....if the swap is successful i would absoultely love to see some pics....and hear everything you had to go through to make it work......good luck!:)

i'd try heating the turbine, it might expand a little bit and be easy'r to get off

Sweet site... found some more info...thanks

im checking ebay now...will post and let yall know how it goes!http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/images/smilies/burnout.gif

:burnout:

i think i may have figured out the turbine... i just am not sure if the exhaust side fan is permenantly attached to the shaft. Will try some heat though. Thanks to you as well...

That engine is not a good choice to swap into a left hand drive car. Nothing fits and there are no wiring diagrams available in english.

The best advice I can give you is to get rid of all the twin turbo stuff. Get yourself a header or stock exhaust from a wrx and run a single turbo. I'd run the whole thing off either a 91-94 turbo legacy harness and ecu or a harness and ecu from a wrx. The wrx stuff would be better since it's tunable.

Good luck you will need it!

Rebuilding turbo's is not something you generally do at home.

if you remove the impeller from the shaft you will have to get it rebalanced or you will just be getting a new turbo in a shot time the intake is balanced to the exhaust side , i have seen turbo shops mess up turbos before so find a shop that knows what they are doing :)

good luck man! try to document as much of it as possable. im pumped to see how it turns out. that is the swap i would like to do on my brat.
