idosubaru
in 1995 the part number for the ECU is: 22611 AB414 but there are two different engine configurations: with EGR and without. how does that work? shouldn't there be one ECU for EGR engines and one without? or can the ECU tell which it is and compensate? Legacy777
The ECU has an AT/MT identifier pin. Depending on how that pin is setup, will tell the ECU whether it's connected to an AT or MT equipped vehicle. So it should know whether or not the vehicle you plugged the ECU into has EGR or not. Thanks, does the FSM specify which pin is the AT/MT identifier? I have a 95 FSM if it does.

idosubaru
Gary, didn't you already know that about the MPFI EA/ER ECUs? yeah i did but i never thought about that. the XT6 auto and manual engines are identical for the most part so the only difference swapping makes is the number of times the LED flashes....so it never occurred to me that it did anything else....go figure!? so i guess it's 95 only ECU's that do this then, i swapped a non EGR into an EGR 1996 and it's got the EGR code.
