91 Legacy Auto Seatbelt questions?

Featured Replies

So.... my 91 legacy project car is having some seatbelt issues.

Short story: They dont work

Long Story:

- I tried swapping the seatbelt brain and it didnt seem to make a difference

- The fasten seatbelt light flashes and always flashes regardless of use of belts or door position.

- The beeper DOES work when you disconnect the belt emergency release (on both sides)

- The belts are stuck at the rear (travelling) position

- The car was running, though I had to use a jumper box to start it

- Door switches are kind of worn, though the door ajar (which door) indicator works

- I opened and closed the doors afew times with the belt attached to the moving buckle and it wouldnt go forward to let me out.

- All the fuses under the dash appeared to be ok at visual glance (and everything else in the car seems to work)

- Key chime does not make noise when key is left in ignition and door is opened

- 91 Legacy L, FWD 241K

So the question is.... what else to try / check?

Pull the trim and hotwire the belt to see if I can make it move? (like you can do to test a power window motor)

The cable that moves the buckle tends to get bound up over time. Your lucky that yours got stuck in the locked position.

Honestly, I just unplugged the motor connection on mine and removed the seatbelt flashing light from the dash. I just duck under it getting in and out, or unbuckle and buckle it. That's abouut all you can do short of replacing the whole motor/track assembly.
