June 28, 200817 yr Lets say I have a 03 wrx rear end with a VLSD and I want to take just the VLSD and put it in a rear end out of a late 90s outback. I can't just swap the whole diff because of the different ratios (4.11 from the wrx and 4.44 in the outback). but can i just swap the LSD? Or were there changes in designs through out the years even though they are all called r160s.
June 28, 200817 yr You can use an early 90's Legacy turbo rear diff which was VLSD and 4.444 ratio. I think the internals do swap over but its quite a bit of work.
June 28, 200817 yr Author well i guess i will just have to take them apart and see. i was just hoping someone had done it before.

Pretty sure the EJ22T Legacy turbos here in the states had 3.9 VLSDs. Direct bolt in to older legacies and GLs/Loyales Newer Diffs like the WRX use internally splined connection(i.e. axle goes into diff, no exteranal stubs) So to use in an older one you would need newer axles or to swap diff stubs into the VLSD (may need machining)
