Easy Transmission Front Seal Replacement

Featured Replies

Pull/push the input shaft. Any play in/out means the mainshaft bearing is bad.

There is some up/down play normally. I would say about 1mm is what I normally find on these.

So, Gloyale,

I just did this "fix" here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=37195297#post37195297 for my Subaru WRX Wagon 5MT.

And now I can't select any gears (while the car isnt' running of course) Did we simply not get the shift fork aligned properly? We started with the car in neutral, but a helper of mine moved it around "playing with gears".

Does the transmission need to be in neutral for re-assembly? Do we simply need to "line up" the 3 shifter rails? Do you have a picture of how that should look? Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have a picture of the "3 shifter rails" and how they are supposed to be properly lined up?

thanks,

The first post in this thread, 5th picture, shows the shift rail forks.

They should all be in line in their center positions.

Thank you for your reply. Before I saw this, we already had just sealed the transmission back up.... AGAIN, after lining them all up in exactly that fashion. You confirmed it.
