valve adjustments on an 86 gl?

Featured Replies

according to my chiltons manual, my 1986 carbed ea82 gl wagon 4wd doesn't need to have the valves adjusted because it has hydraulic valves... can anybody confirm for me if this is true or not? i don't really trust the accuracy of chiltons manuals...

also, i hear a knocking sound when the engine is running that i have always associated with loose valves, does anybody know what else the sound could be if it isn't the valves?

thanks in advance!

An '86 wagon will have hydraulic lash adjusters and requires no adjustment. The noise you are hearing is probably the adjusters not working properly. Do a search for "Tick of Death" to find a lot more information on this condition.
