93 impreza front airbag sensor location?

Featured Replies

anyone know where they hid the crash sensors ? i want to inspect them before i install my new airbag.

thanks...pete m

take off the front fender splash shields, they are up in that area, follow the yellow wires. did you replace the Airbag control module, in center console? That is a must also.

You might want to check on the exact requirements of sensor replacement. I was told that when the bags blow, you have to replace the sensors and control module with the bags, but I don't know, so it might be bad to leave the original sensors. I don't know how much of the "replace everything" mantra for airbag systems is science and how much is sales...

I rebuilt a '99 Impreza OBS earlier this year that had blown bags. I swapped in both sensors along with the module (found under the radio) with the bags. When I hooked up the battery and turned the key, the air bag light was no longer at alert.

But, yeah, like bheinen74 said--follow the bright yellow wire housing and it leads to all things airbag.

OK--I'm out of town, so I don't have access to my folder of photos from this project, but if you look at the bottom of this photo, you can see the yellow wire housing running inside the fender. Doesn't show the actual sensor, but you get the idea where it's located:

Here, you can see all things yellow within the dash that go with the airbag system (minus the yellow shop light of course):

And here is the control module that's under the radio:

It takes a special bit to remove those bolts that hold the module in place, so plan on getting one from the parts store.

the sensors looked fine so i went ahead and installed the bag clockspring and module. it all went pretty smooth but the airbag light is still on. i bought the parts from a recycler who said they would work on my 93 impreza , the parts came off a 92 legacy. can anyone verify this? hopefully i just need to get the code cleared. thanks alot for the help
