Bench seat in Brat?

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Anyone ever put a bench seat in? Just for those needing to carry two passengers...

no, inside, not in the rear jump seats, lol.

I had a bench seat in my old Toyota pickup and it was convenient. The Brat is narrower, so it would be tight. The shifter is well forward, and I could fab the 4wd lever or go with push button. Can't think of any seat that would fit... maybe an old Datsun pickup bench? thanx in advance, PK

p.s. Didn't forget, I'll call you, Zap.

I thought about doing that too, i was thinkin using a seat from a 70's Datsun or Toyota Hilux, you would have to mount the E brake and console somwhere else though to do it...

Third row seat out of a mini van? They always have their own frame and somtimes built in seat belts and are pretty narrow. But lack adj. ability. I see them on C.L. for cheap all the time.

Would a rear seat out of a mid-80's EA81 sedan/wagon work? Might be easier to modify than something from a different manufacturer.

I bet its 2 pieces like the wagon's too. The back of the seat is attached to the body as its own seperate piece from the bottom. Youre going to have to make youre own frame or mounting no matter what.

Dont forget about seat belts/access holes and the ability to get behind the seat amoung other adj.

I doubt the end result will be worth the effort (that will be one really small space) unless its for your kid

and he/she dont mind being elbowed every time you shift between his legs, ide put me energy in some nice buckets out of another car.

Yeah the 80's sube rear seats are 2 piece top and bottom, so youd need a custom frame. there are some Datsuns in a junkyard near me and they have bench seats still, I took measurements and it would be tight but it would fit. You would still need to make custom mounts of course. I dunno how tall you are but seeing as how the seat would straddle the tunnel it will prolly raise you up a bunch, you might find you need the t tops out just to sit comfotably

Oh, FWIW, I measured the inside of my '80 brat, not a Gen 2, so the datsun bench might have more room if you are putting it in a Gen 2.

Nissan 720 bench seats have a cutout for the 4WD lever, but I doubt it would line up.
