Is there a write up on rebuilding anywhere?
-
Talked to NAPA yesterday........no good........out of stock nationally,
-
Looking for a new/remanufactured set of calipers for my ‘85 Brat. Every source I’ve tried is saying out of stock, as is the supplier. Does anyone have a source for them? Also, what would be the correct part number of the aftermarket source you may have?

Are they Gen 2 Brat’s a single-key vehicle? Same key for doors, glove box and ignition or do they have a different key for ignition?

EA81 (Brat) brake system malfunction - help diagnose
ettev replied to ettev's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nope, no braking at all using the pedal without getting the engine revs up over 3,000 RPM or so. Booster vacuum leaking down internally? Maybe bad rubber brake hoses? -
OK, strange situation. My '85 Brat sat for a few months. When I finally got into it again the brake pedal went straight to the floor. No signs of leakage anywhere from brake lines, caliper or wheel cylinders. No wetness on the inside of the wheels, no puddles on the ground anywhere. When I rev the engine pretty high I have a firm/normal brake pedal. When I let it return to idle the brake pedal goes stright to the floor. When I hit the brake pedal at idle the engine stumbles and wants to stall. Otherwise when driving around a nerby parking lot or idling the engine performs as it should.....until I hit the brake pedal then it wants to stall. I've replaced the master cylinder with a new one.....same result. I then replaced the hose and check valve from the intake port to the booster.....no change. I bled all 4 corners.....no change in symptoms. Am I looking at a bad power booster canister that may be malfunctioning internally? Could the new master cylinder I installed also be bad right out of the box? This one has me stumped. Given that the motor runs and idles fine I'm kind of ruling out vacuum leaks at the manifold. There are only a fixed number of things it could be so I'm just trying to see what the concensus says before I attack it again. I need to add that all of the emissions stuff is long gone from this Brat and I'm running a 32/36 DGEV Weber. This thing ran perfect before I parked it for the summer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Zero pedal until the engine RPM's are up.

I was thinking booster myself. Usually when a MC goes it works or it doesn't. Anyone else?

Diagnose this: 85 Brat, power brakes. Not brake pedal either with vehicle off or with engine running UNLESS I get the engine RPM's up around 3000 at which time I get a firm pedal. No evidence of leaks in brake lining, calipers, wheel cylinders or at master cylinder or booster. Vacuum hose LOOKS good from manifold to booster. There is a small metal check valve at the midpoint of the manifold-to-booster hose. What's the culprit? Just trying to save time in troubleshooting.

I'm new to the post EA81's and just bought my son a 2000 RS. Thing runs and idles great, but I keeping getting an idle circuit malfunction code. Seems to kick on at all speeds. Most recent light popped on doing about 40mph in 4th gear. TPS? Dirty IAC valve? O2 sensor acting up? As mentioned, no idle fluctuation and the thing runs great. This is also a transmission conversion car.....5-speed from automatic.
