Tony2toes
Ive got a '92 AWD Legacy wagon automatic non turbo. The tranny is weak and I just found a replacement but Ive heard that they come with different gear ratios in the differentials. How do I find out what gear ratio is in my car and how can I tell if the tranny I might buy has the same ratio? Is there some easily distinguishable marking on the transmission somewhere? Id like to find out before I drive all the way they're, its like 2 hours away.

If you get the trans number off the sticker by the bellhousing or the plate under the hood, you can find the ratio from that. There are some charts onlilne or a dealer can look it up. It is probably 4.111 but check the number to be sure.
