Having a little wiring trouble

Featured Replies

i need to wire my electric fan so that it is on when the engine is running. i think i already have the wiring part figured out, but i can't find a 12v switched wire anywhere. the one that i did manage to find inside the engine bay turned out to be too scrawny to carrythe juice for the fan. right now it is just wired off the battery to a switch and a fuse.

i know this sounds like one of those "get under there and just find it" type of things but i tried that and didn't have the best of luck.

so if someone knows of a spot where i can find a switched 12v wire inside the engine bay, please let me know.

thanks, brian

I think you can just jump a wire from one terminal to the other on the t-shaped plug that is usally connected to the thermal switch on the radiator.

Can't offer specifics but...

It would be a good idea to control the fan with a relay. That way the relay would carry the current and all your switched lead would have to do is energize the relay.

There is a diagram on how to wire this up, posted somewhere around here that I saw in the last couple of days, but for the life of me I can't find it tonight. ARRGH!!!!

You should always run any potentially high current devices, like fans, extra lights, mega watt amplifiers thru relays so you don't end up burning up your wiring harness. (been there, done that)

Oh yes, fuses are are good idea, too.
