my forester is just started running poorly the codes are p0463 and p0440 . The voltage is too high for the fuel level sensor for engine operating conditions. failed fuel level sending unit. P0301 misfire cyl 1 . How hard and expensive is this to fix

for the cylinder misfire it's usually very simple - ignition related. meaning, it just needs a tune up. specifically:

 

spark plugs and wires. make sure to use Subaru only wires and the stock NGK plugs. this EJ25 engine is not forgiving with aftermarket stuff of any kind.

 

if the plugs and wires have been replaced, then it's likely that Subaru wires or NKG plugs were not used.

 

as for the other, some testing would verify things but probably need a new sending unit.

P0440 is an evap system leak. Usually a loose gas cap, but could be a leak in the tank, filler neck or evap hoses.

 

P0301 misfire start out by checking/replacing plugs and wires, if ok from there check coil and injector and compression test the engine.
