"catback" = from (but not including) the catalytic converter, and back. catback is much simpler since you're only replacing simple cheap pipe, and not the converter. for a non-turbo there isn't much gain (relatively speaking) to be had so it's not worth it for most people. not so with a turbo though. if you have a turbo you'll want option 1.
