January 24, 200917 yr I just took my car through DEQ and it passed with flying colors! Oh it is a 86 gl carbed wagon. It always started great and run great, but it just started to die and now won't idle. Acts like the choke doesn't want to work and you keep the rpms up or it will die. I'm stuck any help out there? Thanks Portland
January 24, 200917 yr Broken choke spring. You can drill out the rivets, open it up, bend a new tab onto it, and close it back up. Just make sure to unwind it a bit since it's shorter now.
January 24, 200917 yr Oh yeah! I forgot. In order to rotate the whole choke spring housing, you will need pop off the little tab on the flange that housing bolts to. It's easy to knock it off with a screwdriver and hammer. Or you could get in there with a little file, but the metal is so soft, the *chisel* method works great.
January 24, 200917 yr Does it only stall when cold, or will it still do it after it's warmed up? The choke will only effect the start up and warming up, not after it's reached operating temp.
January 25, 200917 yr Author Hey , thanks for all the input and help. But it was a loose wire connector going to something on the carb.
