January 26, 200917 yr Quick question.... I've got an LSD unit from a turbo EA82 car (yes, the one I bought from Edrach at WCSS6 is STILL sitting in my shed). Can I put this in my legacy differential? Having taken apart both an EA diff and an early legacy one at different times, they look pretty much the same, but are they?
January 26, 200917 yr rear differential i assume, since no EA fronts were ever made LSD? what year/style legacy? i think there was a stub axle change at one point that might be annoying to work around.
January 26, 200917 yr both are r160s and there for are the same. couple things you will have to do. first you must swap just the LSD part into you 4.11 geared rear end. just like all the guys do to swap the 3.90. on all the ones i have done i have had to clearance the case so the LSD will fit in. if you have a non LSD and a LSD case sitting side by side you will see where you need to clearance. all the old legacys had stub style axles just like the GLs did. even if you had the male style axles you could convert back to the older stub style ones by just using the early legacy stub style axles. all those were the same width. i have done this swap on 3.90, 4.11, and 4.44. it's pretty easy if you know what your doing. just remember to measure your back lash before you pull it all apart so you can reset it to the same measurement when your done.

January 26, 200917 yr Author Thanks a bunch, that's exactly what I needed to know, especially remembering to check the backlash adjustment. LSD here we come! Now if I just had the money to buy Zap's d/r tranny.
