Hey all, my mom just bought a 81 Brat with a D/R 4 speed and EA81. Ive driven a few Brats in my time but this one seems to have lower gears than the others, it is revving 3000 RPM going 55mph in 4th where as the D/R 4 speed in my 85 Brat revs a little over 2500 RPM going the same speed. Did the 81 Brats with D/R come with 4.111 gears or do they just have a closer 1-4 gear set?

Nope, same size tires on both rigs, 175/70 R-13.

Hmmm, I'll be interested to know if they did have lower gears. I thought they were all 3.9 or 3.7 for the turbo models, but they didn't have turbo Gen 1's did they?

It's not the diff gear set that's different. It's the gear ratio's of 3rd, and 4th gear that are diffferent. 1982, and earlier dual ranges have lower 3rd, and 4th gears. They changed to a taller gear package in 1983.

Ah, I see... I think Im going to swap out her tranny and put the one from My Brat in it, she wants better fuel economy and I want to be able to run bigger tires easier
