I have an 81 Brat GL that came with an externally regulated alternator, I just bought a replacement from shucks .Here is a link to the one I got. Anywho, I think the one they gave me may be the later version that is internally regulated. Here is a pic I took of it:

If that is the case I guess I can just do that external regulator removal mod right?

 

any advice?

you have the FN type, which requires EXTERNAL regulator, same as on my BRAT

 

INTERNAL regulated has TL
