Just curious to see if anyone knows if my 84 GL originally came with amber turn signal covers or clear with amber bulbs?

I dig the clear look... but where can I find amber bulbs? I've had a hard enough time finding non-amber bulbs for the turn signals as it is...

I haven't seen very many with the amber lenses. I haven't had a hard time finding those bulbs, seems like any auto parts store should have them. I have seen them in several colors. I had clear lenses on my Brat, and I think they just had clear bulbs in them.

All the EA81s I have seen have a clear lens, and clear bulb. AND.....those aren't the turnsignals, they are running lights. Turn signals are in the bumper.

 

I think someone has converted to those amber covers. And rewired them to be turn signals. Maybe whoever installed that bumper?

Clear bulbs in clear covers for turn signals... really?! Is that legal? Reason I ask bout the legality of it is cause I unfortunately live the police-state that is new jersey.

I've tried local auto parts stores for the amber bulbs, w/ correct specs and I just get laughed at (mostly by youngsters who have to ask "what the heck is that thing").

I can pull some clear covers from JY, but the bulbs are either all gone or shot.

Recommend any online resources for small stuff like this?

Yours were changed out to amber lenses to make them legal. In stock app the blinkers are in the bumper, but because you have an aftermarket bumper, someone rewired your corner lights to be blinkers. So they have to stay amber, or get clear lenses and get amber bulbs.

Yep, I bet you're right about that then Gloyale... the soob has been re-wired front to back and am chasing strange electrical issues since day 1.

 

So I guess the turn signals on the original bumper were the narrow rectangular covers similar to the ones located on the side, but on the front... ?

 

I was wondering why I have no running lights on the front... they only function as turn signals.... dangit!

yup, you got it!! So if you are dead set on getting the clear lenses, then you need to get amber bulbs.

If you are dead set on getting clear lens, then PLEASE, ship those amber ones to me. I would love to have my corner lights be turnsignals.

 

Rewired a few of my EA82s to have a corner blinker. But those have 2 bulbs in each corner light.

I am unfortunately dealing with getting the carb rebuilt, so the bigger fish needs frying first.

I don't think so. 83 headlights are different IIRC

Darn. Well, I'll see what I can do then. What do you have and I'll see what else is available at JY in the meanwhile. If nothing works out short-term, you can have my amber covers when the time comes....
