April 4, 200917 yr I just do mine tight with the impact, not like insane, sit there and hammer on it tight,,,,,,,, just enough until the impact seats it good. Then stake it down.
April 4, 200917 yr **1990** Legacy FSM says: 82-91 ft-lbs for the 22mm nut on the mainshaft and 174-188 ft-lbs on the 42mm nut on the pinion shaft.
April 4, 200917 yr Author OK, thanks. Usually a big nut like that, I do as Gloyale suggested and just get it tight. But when I took it off, it was staked but it took almost no effort to get it off so I thought it might be some kind of preload thing. I wonder if it being loose contributed to the bearing failure...
