Exhaust for my 1997 Legacy GT??

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I drive a 1997 legacy GT with a DOHC EJ25. I am interested in upgrading my exhaust, but I absolutely cannot find an aftermarket system for sale? So I am considering just having one built custom. I have been looking at the limited selection of headers available for the car and am only finding Borla. I also found a header and uppipe combo that is for the Impreza 2.5 liter made by Topspeed Pro 1 in Taiwan. Would this fit my car and has anyone ever heard of this company and are there products any good? Form looking under the car it looks like (and correct me if I'm wrong) I will need a header, uppipe, and cat back? Any advice will be much appreciated because i have no idea where to start.

thanks!

An up pipe is something for a turbo charged car. You do not need one.

As you have found, there's not much out. If you want the most gains from the exhaust have an equal length header setup made. MRT used to make a setup like this, and it produced the most gains in the non-turbo engine compared to a typical subaru header configuration. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you go with an equal length header, you will lose the deep subaru rumble exhaust note. It will be a more raspy sound, but still sounds good.

I think putting money into a header is going to be a waste of your money in no time. Most of the aftermarket ones are inferior and crack, even the high priced ones, eventually crack. your money would be better spent on a cam regrind, and some mild polish porting on the intakes and heads. bigger midpipe and axle back also will help. not much gains to be had on the headers, which subaru designed to last and work.

Stromung makes a cat back. It's expensive and hard to find but nice. I have one here, but I think we are going to use it.

You can get a made in china header cheap on Ebay.

Any header with an up-pipe is for a turbo car.
