Disconnecting the alarm: 99 Forester

Featured Replies

We have an electrical problem in a 99 Forester that causes the alarm to go off randomly. Haven't actually set the alarm in over 5 years - just don't live in an area where it is needed - so it doesn't see regular use. Lately, last two months, the alarm has begun sounding intermittently when the car is parked.

What I'd like to do is just kill the alarm altogether. Is there a simple procedure to do so? TIA

The alarm box is under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. I would think you could just unplug it. I would try that and see if you have any issues with the car. Anyone have any other ideas?

When I had issues with an Outback one time a Suby tech told me that it could be unplugged and that most of the wires plug into other places.

I ended up fixing the problem(whatever it was).

But he made it sound like most of the connectors had other homes.

If it is the subaru alarm that is a dealer add on, they are very easy to remove. Just follow all the wires from the alarm box under the left side dash to where they were spliced in and disconnect them. There will be 1 wire you will have to splice back together near the steering column for the starter. It's all very obvious when you look it over.
