Pulsating Sound up to 55mph

Featured Replies

I've got an '88 ea82t, manual wagon. It started making a low tone pulsating sound, that came on gradually and is getting louder. I can feel a vibration thru the gas pedal. It starts at 30mph up to 55mph, it pulsates every second. After 55 it stops pulsating and makes a loud whinney sound.

Does it sound like wheel bearings or transmission output bearing or driveshaft bearing? If so how can I check it?

Thanks ~Myles~

Sounds like a typical driveshaft imbalance. Those are usually caused by a failing universal or a weight might have gotten knocked off it.

I would get under it and have a look, if the u-joints are showing any signs of being bad, pull the driveshaft and replace them, or take it to a shop and have it rebuilt.

Thanks. I hope it's the u-joints because having a driveshaft rebuilt sounds expensive. I'll check it out.
