I got a 84 brat with 71 engine, its stuck in 4th gear any ideas on how or what to try??

Info update, I bought this car this way, rebuilt the motor and it runs fine, clutch works well, I can pull off in 4th and drive it , but can't change grar. The shifter is in the 4th position and has a little play. Looking at tranny the shifter moves in and side ways about a 1/4 inch. I got no idea what to try??

is the shifter linkage all connected?

 

 

could be a broken shift fork inside the tranny.
