EJ 2.5 Modification Question

Featured Replies

I have a project that I am working on that requires a mechanical control for the throttle body. I purchased a 2006 EJ 2.5L Subaru engine which has a electronic throttle control and want to know if I can install a 2001 to 2004 throttle body on the 2006 manifold so I can use the mechanical control?

The project I am working on is an upgrade from a 2.2L Subaru from a 1994 Legacy to a 2006 2.5L in my duckboat. The existing 2.2 is using a modified Subaru ECU to control the engine and works fairly well just would like a little more power. The 06 Subaru engine will use an aftermarket engine management computer and custom wiring harness.

Thanks in advance for the help!

So this is a drive by wire? Is it possible to get the gas pedal assembly? Usually the transducer for "accellerator" is on the pedal assembly.

Sorry i'm a bit foggy right now, but it may just be easier to do that then everything else you wish to do.

Nipper, yes the 2006 is a drive by wire. My best option for my application would be to adapt a throttle body with mechanical linkage and a position indicator (which the new ecu needs) to the 2006 manifold, that would require the least amount of modification to my existing setup. Remember this is on a boat and the controls (shift and accelerator) are on hand controls. It is possible to install the accelerator but the wiring involved between the engine and foot pedal would cause some problems.
