cracked injector nose cones(?)... is this a problem?

Featured Replies

So I finally got around to diagnosing my 87 GL 10 with an EA82T today.

It's been parked since last fall when it started running on 3 cylinders, so I did the usual litany of tests:

Spark all around

Compression is good all around

Timing belt didn't jump a tooth

The problem SEEMS to be a bad injector on number 3.

But over the course of my switching the injectors between cylinders on the rail I noticed the plastic nose cones (nozzles?) were cracked. Well, one is actually missing a chunk!

The seals that seat over the plastic cones seem to be fine...

Since this is an indirect injection motor do these need to be replaced?

Seems like a vacuum leak would be the worst problem this could cause, is that assumption correct?

Thanks- PHIL

If you are talking about hte big plastic retainers, then it should be fine as they are just holders.

If the tip of the injector itself is cracked, that is not good
