July 29, 200916 yr I ran my regular laptop off a regular 150-watt inverter from the front cigarette lighter. It ran fine for over 1/2 an hour, then --- no. I check the 20-amp fuse--fine. Took it to a dealer in Sarasota. He check the 20-amp fuse, fine, then told me about the fusible link behind the socket. I said, "so, the fusible link blew to save the 20 cent fuse"? He said, ha ha, well, yes. Next he told me---to fix the fuseble link, I would need a new lighter assembly for 36$ and it is not easy to install---so the repair: assembly and installation would be $117.93. Of course I passed out and hit the floor, they took me to the hospital and....well, ok that might be exaggerated. I'm pretty good with a solder station so I spent 10 minutes trying to pull out the lighter myself or somehow get to the back of it and .... I can't do it. Help me, help me. Jim in Florida
July 29, 200916 yr You positive your inverter is good? I deal with these things everyday in our police cars at work. They are constantly going through fuses, laptop batteries, alternators, and power inverters.
