Hi all,

 

New to the site and needing some help. I recently purchased a 1994 Legacy wagon, automatic, AWD with 128,000mi. When I test drove the car I could tell there was a small vibration when turning hard left and accelerating but it was minor and I felt like it was just TB. However after driving 200mi back home I noticed the vibration was getting worse, and getting worse very quickly.

 

The vibration is definitely coming from the passenger side front area and it seems to be concentrated around the center differential. The vibration is NOT felt in the steering wheel but in the seat and feet of the car. As stated before the vibration only happened when turning hard left and accelerating, now it does it turning either left or right both under load and decelerating, also starting to feel it when going straight but does not seem noticeable at speeds over 30mph. When accelerating hard and turning the vibration gets worse and you can hear an audible knock, not a "clicking" like a CV but more of a knock. Also sometimes when I hit a hard bump I can hear a clunk but it doesn't do it all the time.

 

I have been doing a lot of research trying to narrow down the cause but I'm still unsure. One thing I am sure of is it's not TB. The passenger side CV assembly has been replaced and I have checked the sway-bar and tie rods and both seem fine, will be checking the wheel bearings tomorrow. I'm really hopeful it's not the diff or the tranny but my options are dwindling. I have tried placing a fuse in the FWD and the vibration is still there. All fluids are full and the tranny fluid does not smell burnt. The tires are all the same brand and size and all are wearing evenly as far as I can tell.

Well it looks like i found the problem:banana:, I got up under the car and found the the bracket supporting output shaft carrier bearing was loose, tightened it up and everything is good. I was freekin out thinking I was going to have to drop $1,000-2,000 bucks, so to only have to tighten a couple bolts is sweet.
