I need some front turn signals for my 1981 Toyota 4x4. There aren't many 1st gen trucks in the junkyards here, much less any with working turn signals. So, I found these:

They're from a 1988 GL10. I hard wired them in with heat shrink insulated butt splice connectors, and then used heat shrink to further protect it from moisture. Coincidentally, these signals will fit perfectly in the grille if I just cut the bottom bar in the corner sections. For now, they are zip tied in place.

And done. The badge is from a 4Runner grille.

Now I just need to find a EA81 center light at the junkyard, and I'll be set.

I was going to put some Impreza seats in it, but I found a Toyota bench seat on CL for $10.

Thanks :) I bought it like that but I've seen it done on alot of toyotas with no, or aftermarket front bumpers.

I think it looks great.

Yeah, it looks good, and keeps them out of the way.

How come you didnt just re-wire the corner lights to be the turnsignals and run amber bulbs? Just curious, but it looks good either way!

I like the idea of it, and I think I could get away with it in Oregon, but in most other states it wouldn't fly. I actually need to fix the driving lights, and the brake lights. The wiring on this truck is a mess. Fortunately I have a wiring diagram, and lots of free time. :)

You will get in more trouble for not having running lights than not using your front blinkers.

Man California sucks... Up here in eastern Washington they really dont care as long as the blinkers and tail lights work... No inspections, not even on out of state title transfers

Im sure there is a law somewhere, and im sure someone cares. its not just CA. There are parking lights on vehicles for a reason.

Anyhow, it wont take much to get your wiring figured out.

I found a stock bumper on craigslist, and it came with turn signals.

Now I have room in the grille for some Hella lights., and maybe I'll do the Hella H4 conversion for the headlights at the same time.

Saw this thread on YT.

Yep, that's me.

TSJ, you should cut the badges and glue them together to spell SUBOTA.

haha i might just do that!

Everyone on the trail was askin me about it, wondering if the truck was powered by a Subaru motor. I had to explain the joke to most of em.

Link me to the YT thread, i think i have an account over there too.
