  1. After somehow enduring 12 miles of abuse, the car struck a rock, gouged its oil pan and came to a stop. Hmmmmm. Skidplate would have helped prevent that.
  2. I think there are two Imprezas in the lead because the poll is on NASIOC. If it was on SubaruForester.org, there would be a Forester in the lead... Nice try, but JacksonRally always had the lead over Distorto in the first round, including at the time you posted whining about who was winning. Maybe you didn't scroll down far enough to see the whole poll?

  4. USPS has a 70 lb. limit. UPS will ship up to 150.
  5. I ended up ordering the OEM formed hoses, but I'm going to buy some generic high pressure hose for the next time something like this happens. I was waiting for you to chime in. Yes, the lines do run under the head on Imprezas. I removed the hoses this morning, and this is what I found: All clamps were tight, and not rusty. Both hoses showed no signs of damage from heat, and were suprisingly soft and pliable. BUT - one of the lines had a giant hole rubbed in it by the steering shaft. The hard line closest to the head had been bent, causing the hose to rub against the steering shaft. So, how did this happen? Before I left Portland, I had the head gaskets done at an independent Subaru shop. This the only time the engine has been out of the car, and I suspect that this is when the hard line was bent. Can I prove it? Of course not, and so I won't name names.
  6. Manual or automatic transmission? If it's an auto, the key will not come out of the ignition unless the car is in park.
  7. There was definitely no oil leaking onto the hoses. I try to keep things clean and dry under the hood. Well, until today at least. I bought the car when I lived in Oregon, so it has only been through one salty winter since moving back east. The lines aren't in the best location. There isn't much room between the lines and the steering shaft, and it looks like there may have been some rubbing. Thank you both for the suggestions. I'm going to be replacing the line that failed, as well as all the rest of the lines and fittings as a precaution.
  8. I have a 2002 Impreza with a 4EAT that's just about to hit 135,000 miles. When I was driving it this afternoon, I noticed smoke coming from underneath the car. To make a long story short, one of the lines that sends the ATF to the cooler had developed a sudden and severe leak, and was coating the exhaust with ATF. Fortunately, there was enough left in the trans. to limp it home. Is this a common failure? I searched and couldn't seem to find much.
  9. That's not a real Weber... http://genuineweber.blogspot.com/
  10. Only on the West Coast... http://www.lovewrightco.com/flash/blog/?p=1218
  11. That's $75.00 for just one light. For that price, you can buy a pair of Hella 500 driving lights with everythine needed to install them. http://www.quadratec.com/products/97006_03.htm
  12. I'm confused. Are you a Brit, Kiwi, or Aussie living in NC? Or do you just talk funny?
  13. If only 31" tires were actually 31". 31" BFG A/Ts are 30.7. You'll find that most offroad tires are smaller than what it says on the sidewall. All your math makes my head hurt.
  14. The wheels are Borbet Type A's. http://www.panoramio.com/photo/19123849 http://www.borbet.co.uk/alloywheels/borbeta.php But, if you look at the photos of the Legacy later on, it has different Borbets on it. Anyway, I don't care about the wheels, I just like the way the winch was integrated into the front bumper.
  15. I thought this was pretty cool... http://www.panoramio.com/user/2365896/tags/PROJEKTAS%3A%20Subaru%20Legacy%20ExpeditionCar
  16. Nope, Legacy 1995-1999. http://www.kybshocksonline.com/SearchResults.aspx?txtPartNumber=334115 Here you go... http://www.kybshocksonline.com/SearchResults.aspx?AAIA=1378773
  17. You know these cars are bad news when there is a Mitsubishi forum named POSDSM.
  18. There may be moisture in the controls, or moisture in some of the electrical connections. A can of compressed air will work well for drying things out.
  19. The weather was finally dry and warm enough today to paint the turbo heat shield. I masked off the warning tag and mesh, scuffed it with some red Scotchbrite, and wiped it down with SEM wax and grease remover. I used PlastiKote engine primer and low gloss black engine enamel, and covered the inside and outside of the shield. It was half the price of VHT, and the finish turned out nice. Of course, I managed to chip and scratch the paint in a few places during installation. List of things to do next week: 1. Sell car on craigslist. http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/1782253938.html http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/1783989775.html
  20. Great advice. If you have an automatic, the dipstick on the driver's side is for the transmission, and the passenger side dipstick is for the differential.
