  1. First picture in this thread... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=109404
  2. There aren't many 15" wheels that will clear the calipers on an 06 Impreza, other than the Team Dynamics and other expensive rally wheels. I found this out the hard way buying 15" steelies. I'd ask this question on http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/index.php Please post some pics of your wagon with the lift, I'd like to see it.
  3. After following your WRX build on DI, I'm curious to see where you are going with this.
  4. I have a 2002 Impreza, just about to hit 114,000 miles, and I've owned it since about 80,000. Since I've owned it, oil changes have been done every three months/3,000 miles, and head gaskets were done around 110,000. Yesterday I noticed a ticking sound that I could hear while driving. After popping the hood, I found the ticking is coming from the driver's side head, but the passenger side head is quiet. This is after the car was completely warmed up. Oil is at the correct level, using Valvoline 10W30. How long do oil pumps usually last on the SOHC EJ25s? Any thoughts?
  5. After you go to NASIOC, find this forum: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=50 And then read this: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185230
  6. It won't void your warranty. Rallitek/IPD sway bars are made in the same facility. Consider upgrading endlinks at the same time.
  7. If you heat the sound deadening up, then the dry ice will need that much longer to cool it down. This is why removing sound deadening is easier on a cold winter day than a blazing hot summer day. I stripped a Nissan 720 in the winter, and Toyota in the summer. The Toyota took me twice as long. The only time a heat gun will be of use to you is cleaning up any residue. http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8801&postcount=83
  8. +1 on what Tex said about hitting it with a hammer first. You definitely don't want to heat it up with a heat gun before you put the dry ice on. The idea of the dry ice is to make the sound deadener as brittle as possible. I stripped the cab of a Toyota truck this summer using about 50 lbs. total of dry ice, and I could have used a lot less if the weather was cooler. You may be able to get dry ice from your local ice cream store, or an ice cream wholesaler. I bought all mine from a place that supplies ice cream trucks. Some grocery stores sell it. Wear safety glasses, as shards will fly everywhere. Carb cleaner works really well removing any residue left.
  9. +1 on the Back to Black. The Mother's Protectant works great to maintain the parts you have used Back to Black on. Meguiar's also makes some great products for plastic/rubber restoration and maintenance.
  10. There's a tiny photo of your car on the last page of the latest issue of Grassroots Motorsports.
  11. Just because Honeywell makes the filters for Subaru, does not mean that they are just Fram filters painted blue. As long as they are being made to FHI's specs, I don't care who makes them. I noticed the switch in case color/manufacturer last time I bought filters, and I've used 4 of the Honeywell filters so far with no problems. Then again, I change my oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first. I would be curious to see the new OEM Subaru filter cut in half and compared to a stock Fram oil filter.
  12. So use a rag to wipe the oil off your gloves before you grab the new filter. No reason the new filter should be covered with oil. If changing gloves is a "hassle", I imagine an oil change must be an unbearable crushing burden. If changing gloves is too much of a bother, wipe them on a rag. Sure, use an oil fliter wrench if you want, but you don't need it.
  13. I don't see that many PZEV Subarus on the road here, but there are a few. An older Subaru that has already had the environmental impact of the manufacturing process amortized is more "green" than any PZEV or hybrid. As for the "Zero Landfill Waste" plant, http://www.subaru.com/company/environmental-policy.html Regardless of what anyone thinks about ridiculous "green" craze sweeping the nation, not creating more landfills is a good cause.
  14. What is oil doing on your hands and the filter? Seriously, wipe it off with a rag. Even better, get some disposable nitrile gloves. An oil filter wrench isn't for tightening an oil filter, period. Just use the OEM Subaru filters. If you find the right place to buy them from, they are the same price or cheaper than Fram/Wix/Purolator/whatever.
  15. Whoa, crazy. If you look closely, the bird has some bright feathers. Maybe the BRP paint is attracting them? I wish it was that easy. It's up in the turn signal section, which has an orange piece of plastic around the bulb.
  16. Are you talking about the Brat, or yourself?
  17. I noticed this yesterday while polishing the haze off my headlights. I don't know how it got in there, but I'm not about to split the case to get to it, because I had leaky headlights in my 1995 Legacy. Been there, done that.
  18. When I first bought my Outback Sport, I stripped all the decals and badges off, except for the one in the center of the grille. I found a 2000 Forester at the junkyard last week, and thought the bigger letters would look on my OBS. I carefully measured the gaps between the letters on the Forester before I removed them. when I got home, I cleaned all the old adhesive off the back of the letters, and applied new 3M trim adhesive tape. The hatch still has some ghosts of where the old letters were, so I used them to measure the center, and figure out where to apply the new letters. It sounds complicated, but it was easier than trying to measure it,as there is not a straight line to be found the hatch. It's not perfect, but close enough. The original IMPREZA bumper cover was removed for a cleaner look, but I found that the paint underneath was messed up due to dirt and grit getting under the cover. Using the cover as a template, I painted it with a few coats of Duplicolor spray-on truck bed liner. It has held up great, and gives my dogs something grippier to step on getting in and out of the back.

  20. Looks like you have a nice start on a swingset. What's next, a jungle gym?
  21. Take the front fenders off. Yes, I'm serious. Just cut the rear fenders with an angle grinder. Post pictures when you are done.
  22. If you're a tweaker, you should be able to figure it out...
  23. It lives! Tiny photo on the cover of this month's Grassroots Motorsports, and in the rallycross feature on page 87.
  24. Just a bit of welding and fab, then it bolts right up! I like your perspective. I'm going to look at everything this way from now on.
