  1. haha, well thanks! I thought it might have something to do with that too. I'll take a look inside if I see anything obvious. It's not urgent, but if you want to shoot me a message with what you think a gauge cluster will cost I'll probably go that route (wont be up your way for a couple months). Or I could trade you for an 86' GL-10 lawn ornament:-p Everything else is going great! Did my first oil change on her a few weeks ago and she's all ready for some winter fun.
  2. Hey thanks. Yeah, I keep waiting to see if the others will go too, but I've driven at least 500 miles like this already. We'll see, I'll take a look at the dash..
  3. Tried searching for this, and could only find the problem in conjunction with the speedo stopping (so sorry if this is a repeat). I've got a 97' legacy, AT. While on a 300-mile drive, the odometer stopped working (trip too) at exactly 151000. Speedometer, cruise, everything else electronically works fine. Haven't done anything to the car lately, and there aren't any mechanical symptoms. The odometer started working again about a week later, first thing in the morning for a nine mile drive, then didn't work again after I started the car to drive home. So, it's froze at 151009 and is really annoying me. Didn't see any bad fuses, but I'm not too familiar with these new subarus so my only help is a hanes manual. Any ideas? Dog hair caught in the odometer gears? Is it worth it to dismantle the dash to check it out? Thanks
  4. Yes, I say "make me an offer" because I've had it up on the USMB classifieds for $500 for a month now with not much luck and will consider any reasonable offer. So, I'm asking $500 for the engine block OBO, and you can check out my part-out thread for other stuff included. Sorry I didn't mention my asking price, I honestly figured you would have seen the thread already. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=114091

  5. I've learned over the years that making offers is kinda like shootin yourself in the foot! What your thinkin & I'm thinkin could be (A) pretty much on the same page or (B) not even in the same book, and nothing good comes outta (B).

I'm interested in the motor, when you decide what you want for it let me know. Like my dad used to say 'I cant buy it & sell it both'!

  6. Hey, I don't know if any of your Justy's are turbos, but I've got an EA82T with 50k on it in southern oregon. Runs great-make me an offer!

  7. Thanks for the technical info GD. I have to say I know where everything's at, but I haven't gotten "familiar" with this car yet 'cause it's running perfect! Just took her on a 600 mile road trip from Oregon to Nevada (lots of mountains etc) and she didn't complain once. Great gas mileage too! It's an odd feeling- being able to rely on a car!
  8. I agree, many would not call it suffering. I've seen 'em work great for friends which is why I got one in the first place. But my particular EA82T? Well, just take a look at my thread history and you'll get the idea. This is a new game for me, and I have to say I feel pretty lost. Honestly, I don't have a clue about the alloys.
  9. After suffering through an EA82T, I'm relieved to announce I'm now the proud owner of a 97' Legacy!! A Legacy reconditioned by none other than USMB's General Disorder, delivered to me yesterday. I'll be heading out on a 300 mile road trip with her tomorrow, and I think she'll be PERFECT. He's done nearly everything to this car, and I'm looking forward to a much needed break from trying to be a mechanic. Thanks GD!!
  10. Small hands work great for the fan nuts. Don't have 'em? Borrow some from a small child/woman (these work great in all those hard-to-reach EA82 spots). When I first got my soob my friend was complaining about how I would hate taking off the fan, but I can get it off in a minute or so.
  11. Forming a new plan here. I really like working on cars, but my EA82T drove me nuts. I think I'll opt for a sweet legacy from GD with low miles to be my mainstay, and I might just get that Datsun B210 just for fun. Parts are cheap, and it's more simple to work on (especially on the electrical end). I kinda wouldn't mind having an old, hideous car to cruise around the neighborhood in! I'm thinking black skull and crossbones on the hood..
  12. Totally. My instinct says "NO!!" on the VW, I've never seen one that works right. The veggie oil thing sounds cool, but again, never seen one without constant problems. The little Datsun seems like a nice "for now" car that I could sell to some goober later on. Parts are cheap and what-not. (And no worries GD, this is more of a temporary thing. Definitely still planning on investing in an EJ22 this fall! If I have a temporary car i'll be able to save up some more cash for something sweet:brow:) And I guess in the long run I wouldn't mind having a crappy little Datsun to mess around with. It's turquiose for christ's sake! Thanks guys!
  13. Looking for a new car after my EA82T betrayed me...again. My first thought was to get an EJ22 legacy with as low miles as i can find. But a few situations have emerged locally. First is an 82' Datsun King cab pickup with only 90k on it(!) asking 2800. My friend has one and it never had problem. 40mpg for a truck is pretty attractive... Second is a 74' Datsun B210 for only 700 bucks. This could be risky, but parts are so cheap for this car (and there's less parts to break in general). It's currently used as a daily drive and will need a new/rebuilt carb soon. Odometer eads 92K but probably has more. This car is appealing 'cause it's classic and simple. I wouldn't mind it being a project i could always sell later. Third (and probably most awesome) is an 82' VW rabbit that runs off veggie oil. It ahs a rebuilt engine and gets 40mpg (off veggie oil!). This is more expensive, asking 3K but damn it sounds nice! I really only have experience with subarus and toyotas. I know Datsuns have quite a reputation, but can anyone give me an honest opinion? As for the VW, I know the engines are very similar to Soobies, so that's nice. I just don't know about their diesel engines. Or, if anybody knows a good VW or datsun forum..let me know! I know this is kind of random, but I'd love to hear your opinions! Don't hold back, I'll probably end up getting a Soob anyway..
  14. So, cleaned out the fuel tank thinking that was my problem. All put back together with clean fuel running through the new fuel filter to the injectors. Car is still acting like it's out of gas... Starts up for a few seconds, then slowly dies. It dies immediately any time I give it gas, too...?? There's been fuel in the oil for some time, leading me to believe there's a faulty injector. Could this problem have worsened, breaking the injector and causing the engine to not run? This is all i can figure, the fuel pump is working, engine computer is working, clean fuel... what else could it be if not the injectors?!?!
  15. Yes!! Thank you. That's what I was thinking. I'll get you yet, nasty EA82T...
