I’m almost ready to take the plunge and put a rebuilt ej22 into my 98 Outback. I’ve read many posts about emissions issues in various states. None of them were from Washington State.

 

Has anyone from Washington State made the transplant AND passed the states emission test?

if it's just a sniff test and they look at the check engine/codes, you'll be fine.

 

california goobs are the only ones that actually look at the engine i think.

In my 96 legacy they did a sniff test (and gas cap test), and in my wife's 98 accord they plugged into the obd-2 port.

I don't know if that would tell them what motor you have or if their computer system would even know which motor your car was supposed to come with (2.2 v 2.5).
