August 24, 200916 yr Hello - My first time. I plan to tow a very small utility trailer with my 2005 outback wagon. However, the guy installing my trailor hitch has offered two options for the wiring of the harness: 1. Attach to existing wires at rear lights. 2. He recomends attaching power to the battery itself - quite expensive. My question: Would using step 1 be ok considering I'm only drawing from the tailights? There would not be any other lights attached.
August 24, 200916 yr Wire into the existing tailight harness. There is absolutely no reason to wire to the battery for simple lighting. I personally hate accessories and add-ons wired directly to battery. Leaves more and more unfused pigtails coming off the battery and makes things look *messy* in the battery area.
August 24, 200916 yr Every other dang year (just about) has a plug in the back where you plug-in a commercially available trailer-light adapter box- I would be surprised if the '05 is not the same. An adapter box is required in any case since trailers usually have integrated brake/tail lights. Dave
