85/86 GL-10 Wiring Diagram/Pinout Request!

Recommended Posts

Ah, this "standalone" box is just the enclosure I plan on housing it in along with the signal and DC generator to power the dash board.

The back of the dash has a 17-pin clear plug, a 20-pin pigtail plug with a singular yellow wire and a singular red/white wire, then a combined black plug with separate 16-pin and 20-pin sections (both car-side plugs are separate, but will plug into the same socket on the board).

Even if a full dash harness diagram is not available, is there a possibility that some of these circuits run on 5V (like some modern dashboards)?

I can see the smaller, 16/20 pin plugs being <12V as they are very small (similar to the ECU pins) but I don't recall there being a "signal box" in the digi dash setups (ref: my 86 XT). It just fed right from the sensors themselves.

I also have Nippondenso's contact info for the USA. Think they could be any help?

Here's the 86 diagrahms and testing info.

***note*** the pins and connectors shown on the first scan are the actual "at the dash" connections.  The pins and connectors on the second scan that are actually labeled with wires location are the pins at the end of the "pigtails" used in the original setup.  If you don't have these, you may need to source a set of the pigtails since there is no info on what's what actually at the back of the dash.

I'm gonna go look now in the 85 FSM.....but it has notoriously lacking diagrahms and pics.

Where can they be downloaded?

Thank you.

Thank you!

Went to your image hosting site to download them. Are the air conditioner image scans from the same manual, or are those for something different?

IDK

There are TONS of different scans and pics from 9 years of USMB posting.

They PROBABLY are EA82 A/C scans....I think from the 87 or 88 FSM?

These are perfect! Thanks Gloyale! and also a big thanks to jono for the email/scans.

The other question I have is what sort of wave the VSS (A/D converter on the odometer) outputs and if it connect to pin 13 like the diagram seems to indicate or does it connect to the random Yellow or Red/White wires I have not associated with any of the plugs.

EDIT: I do not have the "meter case" that the FSM talks about, where the odo and analog/digital converter assembly is located. I have just the digital cluster/microprocessor section of the dash.

Is the VSS a square wave? (I would believe it is as what good would a triangle or sine wave be for a speedometer? And the ignition pulse signal (aka Tach) would be a square wave as well, yeah? I can grab these wave generators to produce the needed signals for increasing RPM and Speed read outs on the dash..
