Scratching my head on a high idle

Recommended Posts

My car( 1988 gl wagon with spfi ea82 and 3at) has recently developed a high idle, after driving it for a minute in gear it will idle at 1500 rpms while stopped, if I were to put it into park it will idle at 2000,after it warms up in gear it will be between 1500-1750 rpms and in park at 3000 rpms, I changed the left rear wheel cylinder and bled the brakes right before it happened, I wouldn't think it would effect it, as far as I can tell all the vacuum hoses are attached

The fact that the vacuum hoses are there, doesn't mean that they couldn't develop a Leakage: A hose might be brittle and have vacuum leaks; but on those SPFi models, the most common fail usually is the seal around the TBi (Throttle body injector).

Check those seals, using sprays of carb cleaner with engine at idle, to see if there are RPM's changes, is good idea, easy way to find vacuum leakage.

Also check the accelerator's cable for free movement.

Kind Regards.
