rubyru
I have read some posts that mention reliabilty issues relating to ej25 motors, and a subaru salesman told a friend of mine that there are some years of the ej25 that he wouldnt even buy. What are the problems, and are they limited to specific years?I own a 94 legacy with the early ej22 sohc and have read about using a ej25 block with ej22 heads but wouldn't want sacrafice the great reliabilty that my engine provides. felipe01forester
The 98-2000 EJ-25 engines were notorious for head gasket problems. Those were fixed in 2001.

Not as bad as you see on this list but there can be issues, seems to be ok from 2000 up with SOHC 2.5.
Geoff4130
So far the only problem I've had with mine was the cam seals.
