GL Turbo Vacuum help

I am in the process of swapping an EA82T into a GL wagon. The car had a SPFI EA82 in it before but it warped a head. I got a running but wrecked GL turbo at the junkyard for near free.

Anyway. I have all of the wireharness swapped over, and the engine ready to set on the crossmember. My problem is the vacuum lines for the EA82.

I have all of the parts but I dont know what connects to where. What lines go to what parts and what is tee'd into what.

I have the factory service manual and a chiltons book, but the vacuum diagrams are a joke.

Can anyone supply me with some photos of their EA82T engine bays, or drawings of what connects to where?

I would be really greatful.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

What I've done in this case is gone to a junkyard and looked at how ti all goes. Took a few trips but I got it all. This was for an SPFI.

Just one idea. Hopefully someone will post some good pictures. If all else fails its time to decipher those aggrivating diagrams :(

The final car will end up as an 89 Gl Turbo FWD Auto.

The area I am specifically having problems with is the boost control, EGR, and evap purge solonoid lines. They are all pretty much located on the passanger side shock tower and run into the engine.

It seems like I ended up with about a million little plastic tees.

Ok.. just so I'm clear.. both donor and recipient are 89?

As soon as the storm clears(if its still light out) I will get some pics of the hoses you are having trouble with.. its too hard to explain or I would.(yes, I actually know where the all come from and where they all go:D )

the one extra fuel line on the driver side(actually its a vent line) will connect to the little dooker that comes up off the framerail from under the master cylinder.

there will be a little skinny fyosser off the passenger strut tower that controls your heater controls and cruise.

there will be 2 lines off near of the turbo, loop those together, those were for the boost gauge and fuel cut off. hope that helps.

o got a spfi with carb motor down in my turbo wagon, those hosed just hang there, so if the turbo motor is in an spfi, the other ends of the same hose would just hang there!

hope that helps, i will pe putting my turbo motor together this weekend with PORTED heads!

are there any specific lines on the intake doing loop-de-loops, or is that all left alone? if i have to i can bring my spare manifold with me to the library!

my motor is an 87 gl-10, i helped to rebuild an 87 gl-10, and pulled the motor from an 86 xt and put it back in.

if that will help.....

I will go ahead and post specifically what I am having problems getting hooked up. Maybe that will help.

Carbon canister - there are 4 hoses coming off this canister. Three of them go to the metal hardline coming from the engine. The 4th line has a vacuum switch (tee) coming off of it, it looks like it needs a vacuum signal and then the main hose goes into the intake boot. Is that correct?

boost controller - there are 3 lines here, one from the back of the unit, one from the bottom, and one from the front. It looks like the bottom hose goes to the wastegate and front hose goes to the turbo outlet pipe, but where does the one on the back go to?

I have a vacuum line coming from my transmission, a line coming from a vacuum solonoid bolted to the top of the engine, the line for the windshield wipers that I dont know where go. Can I just hook all of these to a vacuum source?

as you can see a pic would help.

Okay,

1.the red hose goes to the intake boot?

2.the blue hose is a vacuum signal that starts and ends where?

3.the orange hose starts and ends where

4. the yellow hoses go to the front and bottom of the boost control solonoid, where each of those go on the engine side?

5. the green hose leads into the windshield wiper "thing", where does the engine side go?

PS this is not a pic of my car, I just found it on the net.

the orange one must be the little skinny flosser i mentioned. it should go to a reducer that connects it to a fatter hose. the spfi should have it, unless the reducer is missing. did it come off with the spfi motor?

does your heater select between floor, vent and defrost?

if that is the line i am talking about, you should get away with connecting it to any vacuum source, as long as its not on the boost side of things..........

so what about the heater selector?

if the yellow hoses are coming off the turbo, loop them into eachother, since there will be nothing on the spfi for them to go to

pretty much should go from the turbo outlet to the wastegate, 2 inches of hose will do it (that is how i seen it on a stock 86 turbo xt, like it was supposed to be)

Since we are using the Turbo harness and motor I pulled all of the electonics in the engine bay. I have the boost control solonoid, and some other solonoid that are bolted to the passanger shock tower.

For boost control I was just going to loop the wastegate to the turbo outlet. I would at some point like the ECU to control boost like it is supposed to though.

I will connect the orange hose to vacuum, but you say not on the boost side of things... where will there actually be vacuum once the boost starts? There is a vacuum nipple on the intake manifold that looks like it would work. Is that good enough?

I will go take some picture of my actual car tonight and post them. Maybe that will help more.
