  1. Appears to be the gas cap was not tightened. Tightened it, reset the computer by disconnecting the battery. so far the lights have not come back and car seems to be fine. John
  2. I have an OBD Reader and it didn't have any codes stored. No way to get it in anywhere. Our 1 car garage is full of stuff, since we have no basement. I'll try the battery cable tomorrow. Supposed to be 2 degrees tonight. See what tomorrow holds. John
  3. We would just take it to the dealership but we've had a big storm and everything is shut down. Tomorrow is Christmas eve and we don't know if they'll be open. Trying to find out if it's safe to drive.
  4. Have a big snowstorm here. A lot of spining trying to get out where the snow's piled in the medians. Check Engine Light, ABS Light on, Cruise Flashing. R 55 where trip meter is. Car seems to run ok although rough idle a little. Checked with my code reader and nothing. Drivetrain covered in ice. Any ideas? Is it safe to drive? John
  5. I used it last year. I really like the AIO Polish. The SG Sealant works better if you leave it on over night and buff off the next day. I don't have a grage so I used the wipe on, wipe off method. Did ok. Lasted at least 4 months, but didn't make may car truck pop, like a good carnuba such as #16, #26, or P21S. I still use the AIO as a base Polish before wax on occassion if the swirls are not too bad. If they are I step up to the #83 first, then top with #16. I order from properautocare all the time. Great company with outstanding customer service. John
  6. Please do some research on www.autopia.org You owe it to your vehicle!! Dawn???? You are joking right? Your $30 Zymol is made by Turlewax btw. You can't go wrong with the Meg's Professional Line, 3M Bodyshop line, Klasse, P21S, Zaino, and many others. Read the review section. I'm not putting anything from WalMart or Autozone on our new 05 OBW. It's Meg's Professional and Bodyshop line all the way. #7 Show Care Glaze, topped with #16 Professional Paste Wax gives it a great shine and beads for months. All of this by hand. It is a new finish I use the #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish on my 97 F150, as it is abrassive enough to remove cobweb's and swirls without damaging the paint, then topped with the #16. I use a Porter Cable 7424 DA Random Orbital Polisher to apply the #83 and hand apply and buff the #16. John
  7. I'm going to use it in the wife's new 05 OBW as soon as I hit 3k. Stocking up as I find it. Traveling again this week, so hopefully I can get some more. John
  8. Mobil1 has a new 5W40 Synthetic Truck & SUV Oil. It is repackaged Delvac1. I have found it at Advanced Auto Parts when I've been traveling for work. But none locally yet. Just hit the shelves in March. Some guys on Bob's site are reporting it at WalMarts already. John
  9. If you have a urethane bumper or spoiler that you can push on, it keeps the paint from cracking. I'd say it's mainly for bumpers, spoilers, ground effects, etc......... I had one on my BMW and the added it to the paint. You could squeeze it all day long and nothing happened to the paint. John
  10. I bought a reader for about $129. It pays for itself in 2 uses (if you had to take it to a shop). Also Autozone reads them for free...............
  11. We just got some from paintscratch.com. It matches perfectly. Touched up the rocker panel's on my wifes 96OBW we're getting ready to put on the market. They have the type with the flex additive as well. You need your paint code from the doorjamb to place the order. John
  12. Does anyone know where I can find replacement knobs for my stereo? The balance/fade and bass/treble knobs have cracked and I would like to replace.
  13. Thanks............ Just wanted to know if we were in the ballpark. John
  14. Anyone have any thoughts? Too high, too Low? Would like to get it in the paper this weekend. Thanks for any help. John
  15. Guys, Selling my wife's 96 OBW. Dealer was offering next to nothing on trade in for her new 05 OBW. Car has had everything done. New Headgasket's (Heads Decked and New Vave Seals), Water Pump, Timing Belt, Cam & Oil Pump Seals, and new brakes. Less than 500 miles ago. Car has 115K and is in great shape. Any idea what we should ask for it? I was thinking the $4,500 - $5,000 range. John
  16. Brought home a new OBW tonight. Making the deal in the a.m. wife wants another Subbie, even after HG replacement, ABS Control Unit replacement, and numerous gasket replacements on her 96. Got to admit this one looks way cool. I might even drive it. Are we crazy? John
  17. Looks like it's either the HG or a cracked head. The mechanic drove it home and it did fine, but when he drove it in this am it did the same thing. So they're removing the heads. Going to have them pressure checked. Replace the HG's and Machine the heads. If they're cracked we'll have to get new ones. Anybody have any idea what a new set of complete heads costs? John
  18. So far the guys at the shop have been unable to get it to repeat itself. One of the mechanics lives about 40 minutes away and he's going to be driving it back and forth. They did another leakdown and sniffer test in the radiator and they were both negative. They are thinking it's the thermostat possibly. Going to replace it and the hoses while they're at it. I'm wondering if the block heater may have some corrosion on it and it's blocking a coolant passage?
  19. so do you just live with them until they go? or would you replace it now?
  20. Thanks for the reply. She said she was going fast when this happened. 85+, keeping up with the flow. No letoff on the engine at all. The shop is doing another hot and cold compression test as well as hydrocarbon test. John
  21. My wife was driving her 96 OBW on the interstate the other day. Coolant was leaking, blowing all over and the car overheated. Couldn't find any splits in any hoses. Top radiator hose was colapsed. Coolant resovoir was overflowing. When I got there, big puddle under the car. Very little coolant in radiator. Had it towed to shop. They put some coolant in it to drive it to the bay. So far they can't find a leak. Was concerend a month or so ago about a HG leak. They did a leakdown and hydrocarbon test. Negative. I did an oil analysis, also negative. Any ideas what pushed the coolant out or how it got out?
  22. Sorry, 96 OBW 2.5L, 112K miles. Wife said she's always heard it since she bought the car with 67K on it in 98. I never really noticed. John
  23. Got the car back from the shop and they said they hear a slight knock at the front of the engine after it reaches operating temp. Is this anything to be concerned about? I use 10W30 oil. Do you think a 15W40 may be the way to go to help out. They recommened just watching it to see if it gets worse. John
