  1. Has anyone found an economical source for mirror blanks for the side mirrors? The convex mirror (passenger side) on my '87 GL wagon is broken. Somewhere online I found one for $28 but that seems a bit spendy... I could get an entire mirror assembly at a salvage yard for less $. Thanks in advance! Tracy
  2. Yes... that's it! The poopenvagon, LOL. Looks good, thanks for the reply! Anyone else have a homemade tube bumper they want to brag about? I liked the body style on my '81 GL wagon better than my '87 or '88. Ditching the bumpers and getting a cargo rack with a couple lights might help. A push bar with a small winch would be nice too. No need for a Warn 8274 like I want for my Landcruiser... an inexpensive ATV winch would probably work for a soobie ;-) J/K. Tracy
  3. I was browsing USMB last night and stumbled onto some pics of a GL wagon with homemade front and rear tube bumpers. Now I can't remember where I found it. I liked the bumpers better than the plastic covered stock ones and wanted to take a closer look. Anyone know where this is at? Thanks in advance!   4. I've had a few 80's generation GL wagons and they all had a non-functional dash board clock. No biggie, my aftermarket deck has a clock... so who has a creative solution for something cool to put in the spot where the current broken clock is? Tracy
  5. Sounds good. I overhauled the engine (a quickie-job; rings and rod bearings) in my Landcruiser without even removing it... you can practically climb in the engine compartment to work on it. It's a different story on the Soobi and the thought of pulling it makes me feel a bit intimidated but I'm going to go for it. Tracy
  6. speaking of fuel pumps... when I turn the key on (1987 GL wagon, carb, no computer), I hear the fuel pump... it's pretty loud. Of course I hear it with the engine running as well. The engine runs fine. Are the fuel pumps supposed to be heard? I've only had the car a couple weeks. My '90 Legacy doesn't make any fuel pump noise, my old '88 had a pretty loud fuel pump (it also had FI). My old '81 GL wagon didn't make any fuel pump noises. Tracy
  7. HI! I'm a new memeber of this message board. Looks like some great folks here! I just picked up a 1987 GL wagon. It has 5 speed, dual range, rust-free body and good overall condition. I paid $700. This is my fourth Soobie (priors: '81 GL wagon, '88 GL wagon, '90 Legacy wagon). The clutch is very weak on this '87. I have a Chilton manual and 'How to Keep Your Subaru Alive by Larry Owens ). Chilton says to remove the transmission to overhaul the clutch. Larry says that without an entire car hoist, it's easier to just pull the engine. I kind of like the idea of pulling the engine so I can do a couple preventative things easily while it's out however, the main goal is to overhaul the clutch. What is the consensus here on what's easier? Pull engine or trans for a clutch job? Thanks in advance! Tracy
