Has anyone here built a Subie powered mid-engine vehicle? I have been fussing with the idea of building one. Thanks.

ea81t is nearing completion.......
Salty replied to Ross's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I was able to shorten a 6 point 17 mm socket by grinding it until it would fit under the rocker arm shaft. It was a tedious process but it worked. -
Can anyone tell me what the normal range for oil pressure for a 91 ea82? I'm only getting 10 to 14 psi at idle. It increases to 40 at 3000 rpm. Thanks.

It looks like I got lucky. The car had been sitting over 6 months and the noise went away after driving it 5 miles.

Does anyone know if drive axles from a 86GL wagon will fit a 91 Loyale 2WD? Thanks.

I just picked up a 91 Loyale with 75k miles that has a slight ticking noise close to no 4 cylinder. Is it usually valve lash or are there other causes? Thanks.

Can I get some feedback on whether or not I should rebuild an EA82 with 247K miles on it? Specifically, I need info if the other mechanicals such as transmission and differential usually hold up for a reasonable period of time. Thanks

The clutch on an 85 I worked on would not release due to a build-up of dust. The clutch disc is in a recess in the flywheel which has a series of small holes to allow dust to be dissipated. They do not do a very good job.

Does anyone have info on rebuild kits for EA82? Thanks

I just scored a carbureted 85 GL 4WD wagon cheap and am interested in desmogging it. Are there instructions here? Thanks

Questions Regarding '84 GL Clutch Replacement
Salty replied to Neosapian's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't know for sure but it may be like my 85 clutch. The clutch fits in a recessed area on the flywheel and can get jammed by dust worn from the clutch disc. It isn't real difficult we just replaced our clutch and the only problem was getting the right parts. We pulled the engine and it seemed easier than trying to pull the tranny and drive shafts. This is the easiest engine I've worked on. -
I know it sounds stupid but can anyone tell me which face of the rear oil seal faces the engine? Thanks.

ea71 oil pump will not come off
Salty replied to Salty's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I was careful and the oil pump body holder split anyway. It looked as if it had been shellaced in. I was looking at the pieces and the bolt holes in the pump looked like they could be tapped for larger bolts which then could be used as a puller like some GM auto tran pumps are. It's too late for this pump but I will use it if necessary. Luckily my donor car came through like a champ with a pump with a lot less wear on it. -
I have an oil leak from the area close to the oil pump. I attempted to remove it but after removing all the bolts the pump will not come out. It looks like someone may have epoxyed the oil pump body holder into the block. There is also an allen set screw next to the pressure switch that is not explained in my manual. Does anyone here have a suggestion. Thanks for all the other help I've received from this site

I have a 1985 hatchback with an EA71 engine and a slipping clutch that needs replacement. It looks as if pulling the engine would be easier than removing the transaxle. CAn anyone tell me which way would be easier?

The similar posts gave me the info I need. Turned out it was as simple as grinding down a socket. Thanks.

My Haynes doesn't cover torquing EA71 head bolts. Does anyone have any suggestions for torquing the center bolt under the rocker arm assembly? Is there a special tool I need?
-
The EA71 manifold looks as if an adapter plate could be fabricated to bolt the throttle body to. Has anyone tried this or does it seem feasible?

Does anyone have any advice on converting an ea71 to SPFI? I have the opportunity of getting the makings for about $100 us.

Hi, I,m a Sube Newbie and just got a 84 2WD hatchback and would like any hints or tips on rebuilding, parts availability, normal compression range, and torqueing heads to avoid gasket failure. Thanks for any info.
