I am also having the same problem. If I am sitting at a light sometimes the low idle causes it to stall. I have not changed the air filter recently. This only started the last few weeks. I have replaced idle control because the cel said it was malfunctioning. However that didn't help the problem. This is becoming a real nuisnace. I don't know what else to do. Any ideas?

I purchased the car from a used subaru speciality dealer. It had 152,000 on it. They changed belts, plugs, and gaskets and generally went over the whole car. So, I guess you could say it had been tuned up. But lately, it has been giving me this low idle problem. Since my 30 day warranty is well expired and that dealer is a good distance away, I would like to solve small problems myself. I am skeptical about taking it to the local subaru dealer for a tune up because I am afraid it will be a waste of time and money. What would you say would be involved in a "tune up". Could you please explain to me the importance of the antifreeze and additive ordeal that I have been reading alot about? Thank you. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

My '96 OBW idles low, sometimes when I come to a stop it will shut off. How do I raise my idling? I am also concerned about the head gaskets becoming a problem. What is the recommended procedure as far as antifreeze changes and additives?

Hello Everyone, I am new to this site and this is my first time posting. My Outback seems to be having a few problems. I bought the car used with 157K. Up until recently, it ran great, however in the last week it has been idling low and shutting off. But, it would start right back up. Then I went into the store and came back out & it didn't start. So I replaced the battery because it was very hot. No problem it started up. Since then the check engine light came on & the idle air sensor is malfunctioning and now that is replaced. It still idles down low but doesn't shut off. But sometime when I leave the car set for 15-20minutes it won't start the first time I turn the key. No cranking at all, but after a few turns and alot of please start it fires up. Any ideas? Thanks for any information you can give me.
