  1. The car is an automatic with about 100k miles on it. 2.2L 97 Outback Impreza Sport. I got mixed up about the 75W90NS... About how much would a Subaru dealer charge for a full flush? $100ish? I'd do it... but the 7" of snow we got combined with no garage makes it sorta difficult.
  2. I would have sued them. You paid for a service that they never provided.
  3. Thanks much. I did the search. I put a 15 amp fuse in the FWD holder and drove it a little. It is hard to tell because there is a light coating of snow outside, but I think there was less noise, tire hopping with the fuse in. I did not notice a light on when the fuse was in.. maybe I just didn't notice it. I guess I'll do the fluid flush. Is there an additive out there just for helping release bound up packs? Thanks much.
  4. I get tons of noise (like gears skipping teeth) when going around slow, sharp turns. The outside tire even skips on pavement. I took it to the Subaru dealer and they said the right rear bearing and transfercase is going bad. I had the bear replaced and still get the same noise. Does their verdict sound right? To me it seems like the outside tire is not rotating fast enough compared to the inside tire when going around these slow, sharp turns? Does the transfercase control that? Sound more like the diff. to me.. but I don't know a lot about this stuff. Anyone else have the same problem? If it is the transfer case, about how much am I looking at to get it rebuilt? Or would it be better to find a tranny/tc at the junk yard? Thanks.
  5. I'm looking for a rear hub assembly for my 1997 Impreza Outback Sport 2.2L with ABS. I've been searching the net trying to find a hub from a salvage yard with less than 50k miles on it. Anyone know a good place to buy something like this? Thanks much!
  6. Had my wife's 97 Outback Impreza sport to about 90mph... but I have had my 2004 Yamaha YZF-R1 to about 175 mph.
  7. I've looked at this '06 WRX about 3 times now... $25k with a $3k discount (Subarus employee discount thing) and another $500 in discounts. I want it badly (would replace my '96 Escort nicely ) but I promised my wife she gets the first new car... and she wants a Jeep Liberty :-\ . Maybe next spring I can find a left over '06 for a good price.
  8. I took the car to the local Subaru dealer and here's what they told me. The grinding sound is a bad rear bearing. They quoted $200-600 to fit it... not knowing if I'd need a new hub, etc. They also said my transfer clutch is going bad. Total quote to fix both including labor was $2400. They said it would 'probably' be lower...:-\ I've been reading a bit on here about changing the bearing myself and just leaving the clutch go. I'm not spending $2400 on a car that books for $5000 and has 100k miles on it. Man that grey 2006 WRX that sits behind the service dept. is looking mighty good right now.
  9. Ok. The air in the tire wasn't the problem. It did seem to help some, but after driving the car more it still has the same problem. Would a bad CV joint cause noise/grinding turning in both directions? Thanks.
  10. I think I found the problem. I noticed the air pressure in the right rear was very low. I filled the tire up with air and the problem seems to be fixed. Didn't think low pressure would cause that big of a problem.
  11. Hello, I'm new to this forum. Nice to meet ya all. I'm having issues with my wife's 1997 Outback Impreza Sport. Every time I make a slow, tight radius turn I hear / feel some sort of grinding noise from the rear of the car. Something like gears skipping teeth. It seems to be centered and not coming from either rear tire. What is the likely cause of this? The car has about 95k miles on it. I did replace the 15" stock rims with rims / tires from a 2000 WRX. Could this cause AWD problems? Thanks much! -JrFreak
