  1. there are 2 that i know of, my outback and a forester 2 doors down. but there are only 7 houses on the block! as i drove around yesterday (my first full day of soobie ownership) i seemed to notice an outback or a forester every time i turned around.
  2. thank you all for your input. i don't see any rusted out cars in my area, other than my 97 stratus on the hood that was replaced after an accident...mmmm... and that is with me only waxing the car a couple of times ever. i think i will 'invest' in a booklet of brushless car wash coupons (go right past one on way home from work) for the winter and a supply of high quality car care products for the summer time. you're right- no high school kid spraying on some crap is going to do a more thorough job than me..... thanks again and i'll be happy when i see the new obw in my driveway!
  3. -just noticed other similar posts to this, so i apologize if this is beating a dead horse, but thank you for input here! my dealer is offering extended warranty with $100 deductible various levels, but most popular is the 6 year 80K for 884 bucks (they show some chart with retail price and their discounted price) very reputable dealer here locally. this sounds like a ripoff, as i 'm sure they are, but i have been so burned by past cars (thus the soobie purchase) that i'm paranoid i'll have some major repair the day after 36k passes. other option is to stay with geico, who offers $250 deductible for 100K miles, no time limit, for only about 50 bucks per year. i can take it to any service place and have used it in the past with minimal hassle. problem with that is the premiums otherwise are a bit more than i think i could get elsewhere any advice from experienced soobie owners? thanks you!
  4. potential new subie owner (06 outback, all that remains is to arrange financing, yuck) even though i always hear to turn down rust proofing, etc. i am somewhat considering it for this car for following reasons- - i am not guaranteed to faithfully wax it myself..i start out with good intentions, but hey i know myself! - i live in western ny with no garage- tons of snow/road salt - i am planning to keep my soobie as long as possible (i'd love to beat the current local record of 498k from a guy in a nearby town!).....and i want it to stay nice - dealer offering $599 for 10 year rust protection(all crevices, undercarriage)/5 year paint protection(visible surface)/5 year leather interior protection - ziebart undercoating charges 200-300 initially with a 50-75 buck per year required inspection to maintain undercoating am i nuts? thank you for your input
  5. hi there, hopefully a soon-to-be owner of an 06 outback wagon with some questions on options 1) i have a dog that i want to put in a doggie seat belt in the cargo area, but i can't find out if the cargo area has rings or tie down bars, etc. that will allow this. 2)also, has anyone seen in 'real life' the 06 ob in green? any opinions? can't tell from brochure if it's interesting or hideous! thank you! labbielove
  6. Hi all, hopefully a soon-to-be first time subie owner. i'm considering the outback wagon, and found the outback limited 4 cylinder to be in my price range, but would like automatic transmission. i currently drive a 97 stratus, standard transmission. some reviews say the 4 cylinder automatic isn't very powerful, but i don't know how to take this. i understand the 6 cyl will be more powerful, but i am not looking to drive fast or gun it, i just want to be able to go uphill with no problems!!! any advice- is the 6 cyl worth the extra $ for someone who just wants a great car that gets me around? thanks!
