  1. This is my first Subaru, and I know they’re reliable cars, but I thought I would check with the diehard Subaru owners before I replace the pump. After reading your post, I think I’ll put off replacing the pump. Hopefully, it will last another 140,000 plus miles. If the pump fails, I hope it’s in my driveway. LOL
  2. I have a 1995 Subaru Impreza 2.2L Wagon with 143,000 miles on it. The car only left me stranded one time when the starter died last month. One of my Subaru friends said I should replace the fuel pump, because that will be the next part that will fail. I don’t want to be stranded on some road somewhere, so should I be proactive and replace the pump? When I looked online, some Auto mechanic suggest replacing the pump after 100,000. What brand pump should I purchase? I checked with the Subaru dealer, and they want $314 for the whole pump assembly.
  3. Hello all, do you guys see any foreseeable problems using a power steering pump from a 1996 Legacy outback on a 1995 2.2L Impreza? I purchased the steering pump from a yard, and they claim it will fit. It looks like the hoses line up, and the pulley looks like the same size. I have to switch the mounting bracket, and the oil tank looks a little bigger. Has anyone attempted using a legacy pump on an Impreza?
  4. Dude, check out Blake's Small Car Salvage. 2559 County Road 5, Erie, CO 80516. They have new gen parts.
  5. Hello all, is it possible to switch out the front coil springs on a 95 Impreza without removing the struts? The coil springs I installed with my new KYB G2 struts are too stiff, so I want to reinstall the old coils. My local Subaru guy wants $350 to do the job, but I’m not ready to part with the money yet. On the other side I don’t want to take out those front struts again Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Hello all, will a 2002 Subaru WRX power steering rack work in a 1995 Impreza? My steering rack is leaking a bit, and I’m not ready to fork over $700 to fix it. To be honest, I brought the car into the dealer for an oil change, and the service guy pointed out the leak. It can’t be that bad of a leak, since I don’t see any oil on the driveway, but the service guy said I should fix this problem ASAP. What’s the worse thing that could happy, my power steering goes out, and I just have manual steering? Thanks for any help you can toss my way
  7. I had a similar problem with my 95 Impreza 2.2L. It wouldn’t start after parking the car for about 10 to 20 minutes. The engine light finally came on after the second time. I brought the car into the dealer, they hooked the car up to the computer analyzer and I had to replace the crank and cam sensor. That was a $200 fix.
  8. That’s what I thought, and I would like to save my knuckles. Do you think I should just cut the bracket on the strut to remove the brake line? I hate to have to bleed those brakes again.
  9. Hello all, it seems that I need to change my rear coil springs on my 95 Impreza, because I have a Wagon, and Dobinson shipped me springs for a sedan. I wish I became aware of this before I installed these springs, but how could I know. Once I lowered the car to the ground, it was obvious. It looks like I’m driving around with a load of rocks. I guess I should get to my question. A while back I was reading something online about installing new coils, and they showed a way to replace the rear coils without removing the strut. They removed the large strut nut, jacked up the car, removed the wheel and pulled out the old coil spring. Has anyone ever attempted this on an Impreza wagon? Is this even possible? I’m only asking, because I don’t want to disconnect the brake lines again to remove the struts. I guess I could cut the brake line bracket on the strut. I just don’t feel comfortable doing it. I have this thing about Jerry rigging stuff. I appreciate the help. Thanks

    Lifting Car

Hello all, I have a 95 Impreza wagon, and I was thinking about adding some rubber coil spring spacers to the rear to level the car. I’ve included a photo of the spacer. The car sits about one inch lower in the rear, and these spacers are supposed to lift it about an inch. Is it me or does it seem like all the early Impreza’s left the factory floor a little low in the rear. Is it a handling thing? Anyway, if I install these spacers, do you guys think I’ll create new problems? Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how I could lift the rear without breaking the bank? Oh one more note, I’ve already installed all new Dobinson springs and KYB GR2s, and the coils are the correct springs for the car. Thanks for the help
  11. I called one of the local Subaru dealers in my city, and they said that it's normal for the Impreza to sit a little lower in the rear. The car is setup like that from the factory. As long as it's not 4 or more inches lower. Since it was so much fun switching out these struts, LOL, I think I'll hold off on changing the springs to level the car. I'll have to say one thing about this new suspension, the car handles a lot better. When I'm ready to take this huge job on again, I'll look into the Whiteline springs option. Thanks for all your help.
  12. Hello all is it normal for a 1995 2.2L Impreza sport wagon to sit a little lower in the rear with no weight in the trunk? I guess I should be a little more specific on how low it actually sits. It sits about one inch lower in the rear. Also, I just replaced all the struts with KYB GR2s, and I installed a set of heavy duty standard height Dobinson coils. When I purchased the coils from Whiteline, they said that Dobinson didn't specify wagon or sedan. I emailed Dobinson, and they said they would work, and the rest is history. There is always a body lift.. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
  13. I really appreciate all your recommendations, but I think I’m still going to disconnect the brake lines. To be honest the brake fluid needs to be changed anyway. Thanks again, Leo
  14. Thanks for the help Mike. I think I’ll take your suggestion, and I’ll remove the brake lines. I’ll head over to Sears, and pick up some line wrenches and a set of six point ½ inch metric sockets. I guess I can leave the brake calibers on the vehicle since I’m removing the brake lines. On another note, how hard is it to bleed this brake system. The last brake system I bled was in a 1966 Mustang.
  15. Hello all, I have a strut installation question. I’m getting ready to install four preassembled KYB G2 struts on my 1995 Impreza, and, since I’ve never done this before, I have a brake line question. Will I need to disconnect the brake lines from the brake hoses to install these struts? I'm using a Subaru repair manual, and there is no mention of this being necessary to install the struts. When I was under the car the other day, it looks like I have no other choice. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
