  1. I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with the anti-rust proofing sentiment I'm hearing here. undercoating = awesome. Here in Nova Scotia we often seem to have as much salt on the road as snow (in winter of course). If you look around at some 6+ year old cars you'll be able to tell which ones were undercoated properly (or stored for winters). More on topic though I've seen Honda offer a magical electronic rust-proofing device as an option but have always wondered if it works or not.
  2. I honestly don't think you need an LSD for Canuckian winters. In fact an LSD is probably worse in some cases because instead of slipping one wheel and losing speed you spin both wheels and back the car into a snowbank. Besides if you can't get an awd car with snow tires on it around in the snow you: A. are trying to drive in way too much snow or B. should get a buspass because you shouldn't be on the road in winter:brow:
  3. Also in regards to tire size a taller sidewall and narrower tread will be better in snow and dirt than a big ole fat balogna skin tire. I can only imagine that 17in low-pro winter tires would be useless unless you spent $300 each for some crazy fancy tire. 16in but wider like 225s aren't that great either but at least the sidewall would have more flex and provide better grip. If you're going to do a lot of driving in snow I'd personally recommend sticking 15in rims and tires on for winter if they'll clear your brakes.
  4. I'm going to toss in a vote for re-treaded tires. I got a set of new retreads put on my legacy last winter. All 4 tires mounted, balanced, taxes, etc only came to ~$330cad. And they are fantastic in the snow. Like mountain-goat fantastic. Very gummy even in the cold.
  5. Hello everyone! I just stumbled upon this forum from a link over at bbs.legacycentral.org the other day. I love all the off-roading that goes on over here! I wish I was allowed to lift and mod the wife's wagon. Without further foolishness I'll introduce you to the wagon: 1994 Legacy turbo with a 4eat slushbox. We bought it about a year ago for $4000cad tax in and it had 146,000kms on it with full dealer-maintainence records in the glovebox. It has a little surface rust here and there and a gas leak but overall we think it's a great car. I had to run out and snap a couple pictures of it for you guys and gals this morning... here she is:
