  1. The Header in my 94 Leg NA, just sprung its second leak, welded once, but it’s leaking again. I have seen other 94 Legacys with leaking headers in the same spot...wonder if it is a common defect (Cheesy headers?) Anyway, I want a higher performance header pipe (and perhaps a whole exhaust), and am wondering what to get??? I’ve heard the Borla 2.5L headers will work well. For about $250. WHAT is the advantage of this around-the-front-of-the-engine design? My current pipe is more like this: Is it just NA, and later models switched to the turbo type head pipe? Hmm. that Borla system is looking tempting (I haven’t spent any money on my car in a long time)... I’ll probably just have the “Cat-Back” built by a local exhaust shop (with good prices). Where I live we don’t have to pass emissions, so I can get creative.
  2. there is a ball that rolls forward and back on hills. this should prevent the HH from holding on a level or down-slope (and from causing your breaks to lock on when stopping with the clutch in) http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/hillholder.jpg Perhaps it's getting stuck, or is cloged.? (break flush/bleed?) I disable my HH at the fist heavy frost in the winter... Hill holder is not your friend in the snow, if you need to say... Slowly back down a snow-covered drive. It can send you spinnin'/ Good for summer though..
  3. I leave my lights on in my '94 Leg wag, they automatically turn off with the ignition so it's just convenient to leave them on...and they are great DRLs. Consider this: you are less likely to be found at fault in an accident if you have your lights on.And I think you are less likely to get in one too.
  4. Change the trany fluid, use a lighter weight, like 75W-90 of good quality synthetic... With 85W-90 (or so) my Leg 5sp was really hard to shift into 1st when cold. Also, when I bough the car it had been parked on the lot for months, with low trany fluid, and there was some rust in, killing a baring over about 10K miles, making it harder and harder to shift (and making a nasty sound). But if there aren't any scary sounds...could just be normal, I've noticed that many subi 5spds are relatively hard to put in first at 10Mph or greater.
  5. Very interesting... I'll have to play around with some of these power resistors I have laying about. I have heard about a "Shift Kit" device, mostly for SVXs, that, depending on throttle (via Vacuum switch), disconnects the Dropping Resistor...so when the throttle is pressed to about 1/3, the switch opens and disconnects the resistor. I wonder if a hybrid of the two methods would be best...a throttle activated switch that would put a, say, 15ohm resistor in series with the stock 10ohm? Or maybe replace the stock resistor with a higher value, and when the throttle is closed, switch a resistor in parrallel... (Like a 20ohm stock, and a 20ohm switched) Or get really fancy and rig some kind of solid state voltage control, perhaps with some sort of FET, perhaps controlled by the TPS itself. Oh here is the site: http://www.smallcar.com/svx/tsk.htm (Oh, one question though: Where is the resistor on a 97 Impreza 4EAT?)
  6. Subaru is FINALY bringing a little of their coolest stuff to the states... I got looking at http://www.trademe.co.nz they have hundreds of amazing subis for sale... Like 1996 STI wagons, amazing looking Foresters, 1989+ Legacy Wagons with twin turbos and 5spds, and the ever popular 1992 WRX sedan With a rear Wiper!!! Yikees, we don't get nearly the cool stuf in the states...Not as many amazing wagons...and the only American subi sedan to have a rear wiper was the SVX... Sigh..... have a look at this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Subaru/auction-16862060.htm I think I need to figure out how to put a rear wiper on my friends Impreza for Christmas... than and an "I" badge, and the 2-door RS spoiler he has on his 4-door L, and it'd be one unique car. Oh and all the Interiors kick butt! (other than the RHD) Things like awesome 3 spoke steering wheels insted of the uggle 2 spoke we had in 90-93ish...! And cooler dash and seats. !!! Man, I need to move to New Zealand!
  7. Ya when I got the car from a dealer it was low on tranny fluid, and had been sitting for months on the lot. SO I said that they would have to check the tranny, and change the fluid before I bought the car, among other We-owe things. . (mistake) They just toped it off... 6 month later I notice a noise. another 6 months I'm changing the back barring on the main shaft, that had rusty parts around it.... SO, I want to strech the life of this tranny as long as I can and someone I trust. said that UDT Lube from Kabota was the Best... I just want to know If its safe for my subbi, with its center diff and all...?
  8. I have a '94 Legacy 5-spd AWD. Its getting cold her and the 90 weight tranny fluid is making it hard to shift till it warms up a lot... Someone told me there is a really good tranny lube called UDT from Kabota, and its aproved for all manule transmitions.. even used in limited slip hydralic transmitions.. and it works well at LOW temps.. anyone heard of the stuff, and is it safe for my Subbi ?
