  1. Problem solved. Once i put a new electrical connector on the lone wire going to the selenoid the starter motor turned. It took some messing around with the alarm thing under the steering colum but eventually i deactivated the starter shut off thing.
  2. Ok so had a chance to get a look at things in the daylight today. It appears that the single strand wire that attaches to the starter selenoid (think thats what its called) has broken at the electrical connector. I pulled the starter to have it tested anyway. The stArter motor turned when hooked up to the tester. It did sound like it may have a bad bearing or something internal is whinning a bit. Going to install a new connector & hook it back up to see if it will work on the car. If so im getting a used starter at a local used parts shop. The one i had tested reads mitsubishi, its that standard issue subby or an aftermarket part? Hopefully its not an electrical issue associated with the alarm system thAt is preventing the starter motor from engaging. I did follow the manual for using that bypAss switch under the stearing colum.
  3. Car has been starting fine & no previous warnings that something was about to quit working. I ran the car & turned it off, when i went to restart the car nothing happens when I turn the key. Headlights and electronics work but when the key turns to start, nothing happens. No audible clicks, no motor, cranking, no nothing. Its a MT and i waz able to catch it in gear & was able to run with headlights and electronics for 25 minutes with no problems. If it is the starter, any brands to stAy away from or ones u would reccomend?
  4. Thanks for the info. Luckily I have the car parked and used my truck to get to work today. I will replace it with the proper filter.
  5. I accidently installed a Purolator Pure One oil filter pl14459 (which was purchased for my girlfriend's 2003 acura) and installed it on my 2000 Forester instead of the pl14460. Can I run the pl14459 filter safely in my Forester or do u reccomend me making a mess and trying to swap filters. Thanks.
  6. Not sure what childish outburts you were refering to but if the "get a new car" post is what you were refering to, then I totally agree... Thanks to those who did provide positive feedback. As I said earlier, I will post the problem along with some of the things that may have occured prior to the transmission getting stuck in gear. I'm sorry to those who I may have offended but I don't see how a reply stating to "get a new car" is an acceptable post on this forum.
  7. Actually if you reread the posts...Only one question was asked prior to me bringing the post back to the top. I appologise if I forgot to answer that question. I did try to shif the car out of 2nd gear with theengine off. That didn't work. I simply posted on here to get some insight as to what might be the problem or what i could do to get the car out of gear. SORRY TO BOTHER YOU WITH SUCH NONSENSE GD!!!
  8. I believe there is a comedy forum already started at goFyourself.com... Grow a set and and either try and help out or don't chime in. The car is actually stuck in second gear. I have shut the engine off and tried to move the shifter to get the car out of 2nd gear but that didn't work. The shifter doesn't feel like it's in the proper location for 2nd gear. I haven't tried to really muscle the gear shifter for fear of causing further damage. The car's on the way to a used subaru repair facility that I trust. They seem to think that it could be a "roll pin". I will follow up with the official diagnosis when I get it.
  9. I have a 2000 Forester that I recently purchased. It has just over 92,000 miles. I was approaching a stop sign, going down hill. When I depressed the clutch pedal and tried to down shift, it would not come out of 3rd gear. I was able to make it home in 3rd but could not get it out of 3rd gear no matter what I did. The clutch seemed to be pretty touchy, but wasn't slipping. It was more difficult to pull out smoothly than some of the other standards that i've driven. Sometimes it didn't want to go into first gear approaching a stop. Any suggestions on how to get it out of 3rd gear or what mmight be wrong?
  10. Thanks for the info. I will pull it up on some ramps this weekend and check for exhaust leaks and connections to the sensor. Just purchased this car used with 92,000 miles. Loved my old loyales and hope this Forester treats me as good as they did.
  11. Sorry...it's a 2000 Forester. My check engine light just came on and the local advance auto ran the error code and it was PO136 (oxygen sensor circuit malfunction). Question-if I need to replace the O2 sensor, which one is it? And can I continue to drive until I get the time to replace it? Which brand O2 sensor would you reccomend? Also, the digital clock clock located near the two front interior lights doesn't work but the interior lights work properly. Any guess what could be wrong with the clock? Thanks.
  12. I have an 89 GL wagon and none of the widow switches work. I have checked the fuses and replaced the main driver side door switch with one that I know works. I have used the battery and two wires to power the widow motor and it worked. In a repair manual I have it talks about a circuit breaker under one of the front seats(which I haven't located). It seems as though there isn't any power comming to the swiches. Any Ideas? Thanks...Jesse
  13. yep, I am dealing with the front brakes. I wasn't aware the piston had to be turned. Also there wasn't any way to secure a c clamp without damaging the rubber bushing on the backside of the caliper. Thanks again.
  14. I have an 89 GL and would like some advice on how to retract the brake piston in order to install new brake pads. Thanks...Jesse
